SANDAKAN: Sabah Osca stormed to victory in the Men’s Open 10’s category at the Sandakan Rugby Harapan Cup 2025, held at the Eagles Rugby Club (ERC) field on Sunday, securing the championship title and a RM5,000 cash prize.

The thrilling tournament saw Titaniva R.C. finish as runners-up, while ERC A and SS Scorpion claimed third and fourth place respectively.

In the Women’s Open 7’s category, Flyers emerged as champions, pocketing RM1,000 in prize money. They were followed by Kungfu Panda in second place, with Javanicus A and Javanicus B finishing third and fourth respectively.

In the Plate division, XCV Badbois took the top spot, while Hunters RC settled for second.

A total of 15 teams from across Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia participated, including Hornets, Bomba Sabah, Saga Kinabatangan, and Nabawan Kalawon, making the tournament a showcase of talent and tenacity.

The event concluded with a closing ceremony officiated by Sandakan Member of Parliament, Vivian Wong Shir Yee, who praised the tournament’s growing stature and strong participation from both local and peninsula-based teams.

“This tournament continues to be a great platform for rugby development in Sabah, and we are committed to organising it annually with our strategic partners,” Vivian said in her speech.

She also extended her gratitude to the organisers, partners, and the ERC for hosting the event at their prestigious rugby grounds.

Also present were ERC Deputy President Dr. KH Tan, Sandakan Parliament Coordinator Tang Tzu Ching, and other event partners.
