Kota Kinabalu: Sabah PKR has hit back at Warisan for issuing misleading statements that undermine government flood relief efforts and civil servants working on the ground.

Sabah PKR in a Facebook post accused Warisan of being irresponsible despite being part of the unity government and having a deputy federal minister.

The Sabah PKR in its post said flood relief is a shared responsibility between government agencies, non-governmental organisations, local communities and political parties.

The party said both State and Federal governments have channelled emergency funds through Nadma, the Social Welfare Department and related agencies to ensure aid reaches flood victims.

“We appreciate anyone who helps on the ground, including opposition political leaders. But Warisan should support coordinated relief efforts instead of creating negative perceptions about civil servants who are serving,” the post read.

The party said civil servants are frontline first responders during disasters and their service should not be belittled.

On the water concession issue, Sabah PKR blamed former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal for failing to provide a clear transition plan after the concession ended, causing ongoing water supply problems across many areas.

The current GRS-PH government had to make an out-of-court settlement to avoid bigger compensation risks and ensure plant operations continued uninterrupted, Sabah PKR said.

Regarding the Pan Borneo highway project, Sabah PKR accused Warisan of trying to shirk responsibility despite leading the State Government at the time.

They pointed out that in January 2020, Shafie himself admitted the PDP cancellation was made for political reasons involving a consulting company owned by political party members.

The party said coordination weaknesses and lack of strong alternative financing models caused project delays, postponing benefits for Sabahans.

In their Facebook post, Sabah PKR urged all parties, including Warisan, to set aside political interests and support government and civil service efforts. They called for solidarity with the people rather than creating confusion with baseless accusations during this critical time.

The party pledged to ensure announced allocations reach disaster victims, basic infrastructure is restored, and major development projects including Pan Borneo proceed smoothly for the people’s benefit.
