KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR has welcomed the Prime Minister’s agreement to increase the number of parliamentary seats for Sabah and Sarawak.
State PKR chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud (pic) said the move was timely as it coincided with Malaysia Day celebrations, reinforcing the spirit that underpinned the nation’s formation.
He said the agreement followed the recent Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Council meeting in Sarawak, where matters relating to the rights and status of both states were discussed constructively.
According to him, the additional seats would correct representation in Parliament and accelerate development in Sabah and Sarawak through more focused policies.
Mustapha added that the decision recognised Sabah and Sarawak as equal partners in Malaysia and reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to fully realising MA63.
