BARISAN Nasional (BN) appears to have secured a significant breakthrough in Sabah’s interior region, with Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup reported to have defeated incumbent Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin in the unofficial results for the N.45 Sook state seat.
The contest was among the most closely watched in the 17th Sabah state election, largely due to Ellron’s longstanding presence in the constituency.
He has represented Sook since 2008, serving nearly four full terms and holding several positions in the Sabah State Cabinet, including as Minister of Youth and Sports.
Ellron had previously been linked to allegations involving a businessman, Albert Tei—a claim he strongly denied. No charges were ever brought against him.
If confirmed by the Election Commission (EC), the unofficial outcome would mark the end of Ellron’s nearly two-decade tenure in Sook and signal a new chapter for BN in the Keningau interior.
The EC is expected to announce the official results soon. – November 29, 2025
