WARISAN president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is bracing for a challenging fight in his Senallang state seat, with a five-cornered contest shaping up for the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election.
Shafie will face Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s Marunda KK Ampong, Parti Impian Sabah’s Mohd Lipai @ Samsu Sundalu, former Youth and Sports minister Datuk Askalani Andul Rahim running as an independent, and Parti Perpaduan Malaysia’s Abdul Majid Angkulan.
Observers noted that the nomination centre remained orderly, with security well-managed despite the large turnout of supporters.
The Sabah State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on 6 October with the consent of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, marking the conclusion of the 16th assembly’s full five-year term which began in October 2020. - November 15, 2025
