Sabah Ports Authority amendment passed by Assembly

Kota Kinabalu: The State Legislative Assembly on Wednesday passed the Sabah Ports Authority (Amendment) Enactment 2026.

The Bill, tabled by Industry, Entrepreneurship and Transport Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick, updates the definition of "Minister" under the Sabah Ports Authority Enactment 1981 following the transfer of port affairs from the Ministry of Public Works and Utilities to the Ministry of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, effective Dec 3, 2025.

Ewon said the amendment has no financial implications and does not alter the powers or functions of the Sabah Ports Authority or the State Government.

Six assemblymen from Moyog, Tanjung Aru, Tamparuli, Bugaya, Elopura and Tanjong Papat took part in the debate before the Bill was passed.
