Sabah Ports strengthens safety, emergency readiness with 23rd SAFER MoU signing

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd (SPSB) has formally convened the 23rd Sapangar Allied Fire Emergency Response (SAFER) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony at the Wisma SabahPorts, further strengthening the collective commitment of industry stakeholders and government agencies towards safety, resilience, and effective emergency preparedness.

Established in 2010, SAFER has evolved over 23 years into a consolidated response network uniting jetty users and allied agencies in safeguarding lives, assets, and the environment.

The revised MOU signed today reflects the need for continuous advancement in line with industry developments and operational challenges.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of key stakeholders from industry players and government agencies including Royal Malaysian Navy (Kota Kinabalu Naval Base), Royal Malaysian Police, Ministry of Health Malaysia (Sabah State), Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Sabah State), Malaysia Marine Department (Sabah Region) and Sabah Ports Authority.

Their collaboration and participation ensure that SAFER remains aligned with state-level emergency response frameworks.

Speaking  at  the  event,  Madam  Lai  Fui  Nar,  General  Manager  (Technical  &  Process Improvement) Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd, underscored the significance of the renewed MOU:“The signing of this revised MOU is not merely a formality; it is a reaffirmation of our collective responsibility to be prepared, coordinated, and resilient in safeguarding both industry and community. SAFER represents our shared readiness to act decisively in the face of unforeseen challenges.”This year’s signing also coincided with Sabah Ports HSE Week 2025, themed “You See, You Act”. The theme reflects the proactive culture that SPSB continues to advocate, emphasising that safety is a shared responsibility requiring vigilance, immediate action, and a collaborative mindset.

Sabah Ports extends its deepest appreciation to all industry members, allied agencies, and government partners for their steadfast support in ensuring SAFER remains an effective and sustainable emergency response framework.
