Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said Sabah is well positioned to serve as an important bridge for deeper Malaysia-China cooperation.
He said Sabah’s ties with China were an important part of the broader Malaysia-China partnership and dated back centuries through maritime trade linking Borneo with southern China and Southeast Asia.
He said Sabah offered a strong platform for Chinese engagement due to its strategic location, economic potential, natural resources and long-standing people-to-people links, with China among the State’s major trading partners.
Hajiji said opportunities for cooperation and investment remained strong in tourism, renewable energy, agriculture, fisheries, logistics, digital services and the blue economy, as well as in clean energy, smart farming, aquaculture and marine conservation.
Speaking at the 77th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China reception at Magellan Sutera Resort here tonight, with his speech delivered by Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, Hajiji said Sabah remained committed to strengthening Malaysia-China relations while advancing its priorities under the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 development agenda.
