Kota Kinabalu: Sabah hit a new high of 137 cases on Thursday from 125 the day earlier, due to a spike in cases in urban areas, said Sabah’s Covid-19 Spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

“A sharp rise of cases in Kota Kinabalu and Penampang is the main factor that contributed to Sabah’s high caseload,” he said in a statement, Thursday.

Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 61 cases, followed by Penampang (42), Putatan (9) and Papar (8).

Masidi said nine districts recorded zero cases, bringing the number of infection-free districts to 16 from nine the day before.

Of the caseload, 68 per cent were sporadic infections while 22 per cent were close contacts.

No deaths or new clusters were identified.

On Sabah’s immunisation programme, 993 individuals took their vaccines on June 22, of which 464 were adults and 529 were children.
