Sabah remains committed to affordable housing

Kota Kinabalu: The State Government remains committed to ensuring every Sabahan has access to quality, affordable and sustainable housing despite rising costs facing the property sector, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.

Opening Shareda's 25th PropEX 2026 on Friday, he said the Government would continue working closely with developers to expand housing opportunities and improve accessibility while meeting growing demand.

Arifin said developers were indispensable partners in addressing Sabah's housing needs, but acknowledged the industry was facing rising construction costs due to global economic challenges, including supply chain disruptions, exchange rate fluctuations and higher fuel prices.

He said the Ministry was streamlining development approval processes, reducing administrative delays and expanding digital platforms to improve efficiency, lower holding costs and support housing affordability.

Arifin also launched JSK Group's Taman Universiti Utama project in Telipok, featuring 33 double-storey terraced houses, during the property exhibition.
