Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Covid-19 caseload dipped to 242 on Friday from 267 on Thursday. However, the positivity rate went up to nearly 12 per cent from 9.9 per cent the day earlier.
One death was recorded in Kota Kinabalu.
Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the decrease in cases does not necessarily indicate that the Covid-19 situation has improved.
“The total number of cases on Friday does not reflect the current situation, considering that more districts recorded an increase in infections (16 districts) compared to six districts recording a decrease.
“Additionally, the total number of test samples on Friday was 2,874, lower than the 3,329 samples from the day earlier (but the positivity rate was higher),” he said in a statement, Friday.
Masidi explained that the main factor contributing to the dip in Sabah’s caseload was the significant decrease in Kota Kinabalu’s cases which fell by half from 173 to 86 on Friday.
“As explained previously, the fluctuation of cases in Kota Kinabalu is due to delayed registration of backlogged test results.
“In fact, five districts which were previously infection-free have recorded new cases, namely Beaufort (+13), Putatan (+10) and Keningau (+6),” he said.
Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 86 cases, followed by Tuaran (23), Sandakan (17), Papar (16), Penampang (16), Beaufort (13) and Putatan (10).
Masidi said 241 out of 242 cases were category one and two infections, while one case was recorded in category three. 71.49 per cent were sporadic.
No new clusters were identified.
