Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s daily Covid-19 infections increased by 64 cases, or 36 per cent, to 241 on Wednesday from 177 cases on Tuesday.
Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said six districts recorded more than one digit in new infections. Kota Kinabalu again recorded three-digit infections with 106 cases (+21), Tuaran 31 cases (+21), Beaufort 21 cases (+21), Papar 14 cases (+9), Penampang 14 cases (-4) and Sandakan 14 case (+two).
Lahad Datu recorded nine new cases after having zero infection the day before.
New Covid-19 cases are becoming more prevalent in more areas. Only nine out of Sabah’s 27 districts had no new infections as of Wednesday.
On Wednesday, new cases were reported in formerly infection-free areas like Beaufort and Lahad Datu.
Masidi said Wednesday’s skyrocketing daily infection rate should serve as a wake-up call for all Sabahans to get back to living a healthy lifestyle by following the standard operating procedures and health recommendations from the Ministry of Health.
“As Covid cases rise, the virus will spread more quickly and to more people, especially among close contacts.
According to him, “this multiplier effect will cause the number of daily cases in Sabah to continue to rise every day.”
On Wednesday, there were 2,947 test samples, with a high positivity rate of 11.23 per cent. As was already mentioned, a high positive rate indicates a quicker transmission rate.
Out of 241 cases, 237 were in categories one and two, while two cases each were in categories three and four.
