Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s diverse religious and cultural communities came together at the Kota Kinabalu Gurdwara on Sunday for the annual “Doa Sayangi Malaysia” gathering to pray for national harmony, stability and economic growth.
Organised by the Kinabalu Singh Sabha Association (KSSA) Sabah in collaboration with the Sabah State Cultural Board, the gathering has been held since 2019 in conjunction with National Day and drew more than 100 people this year.
KSSA representative Dr Balvinder Kaur Kler said racial unity was vital as peace formed the foundation of stability and economic growth, with gatherings at different houses of worship providing an opportunity to strengthen inter-community ties and patriotism.
“The Rukun Negara is not merely a recitation during gatherings or official events,” she said, adding that mutual respect among Malaysia’s diverse cultural and religious communities remained central to building a resilient society.
KSSA President Baldev Singh said the turnout reflected Malaysians’ shared commitment to harmony and unity, while Kler expressed hope that next year’s gathering could be held inside the restored Gurdwara Sahib building, which was completed in 1924 and will mark its 102nd anniversary on Sept 27.
