Sabah’s Milton clinches men’s open 42km

LABUAN: Sabah runner Milton Amat won the men’s open 42-kilometre category at the Pearl of Borneo Marathon (POBM) 2026 after completing the race in two hours and 57 minutes.

Thailand’s Prasoet Phaisan claimed the men’s senior veteran title with a time of three hours and 27 minutes, while Mohd Zulkarnain won the veteran category in three hours and 33 minutes.

In the women’s categories, Hasnita Asis emerged champion in the open division, while Bee Hong Ewe Ewe and Tammy Chew won the senior veteran and veteran categories respectively.

The event, organised by Labuan Corporation and its strategic partners, attracted 3,367 participants from Malaysia and abroad, including Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, India, Ireland, Malawi, Russia, Canada, the Philippines, the United States and Britain.

Besides the flagship 42-kilometre race, participants also competed in the 21-kilometre, 10-kilometre and three-kilometre Fun Walk categories held around Labuan.

Prizes were presented by Federal Territories Department Director-General Datuk Muhammad Azmi Mohd Zain, accompanied by Labuan Corporation Deputy Chairman Simsudin Sidek and National Unity Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid.

Organisers offered a total cash prize pool of RM58,848, in addition to Brooks running shoes worth RM27,318 for podium winners.

The successful staging of the Pearl of Borneo Marathon 2026 is expected to strengthen its prospects of being included in the Borneo Marathon Series in the future while enhancing Labuan’s position as a regional sports tourism destination in line with the Labuan 5S agenda.
