
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s swimmers captured three gold, seven silver and three bronze medals in the 5th MAS/NSC Mid Long Distance Swimming Championship held in Bukit Jalil over the weekend.
The six-member squad composed of Alexis Lee, Kevin Hon, Laura Lee, Shane Chong, Sharon Voon and Tanner Joibi led by coach Benjamin Lee finished eighth overall.
Laura, who delivered two golds, two silvers and one bronze also set a new meet record in the 200-metre backstroke with her time of two minute 32.75 seconds.
Alex was the other gold medal winner in addition to three silvers and one bronze, while the other medal winners were Sharon and Tanner with one silver each and Shane with a bronze.
Sabah Aquatic Sports Association president Daniel Lee congratulated the team in a statement released on Tuesday.
“Congratulation to the athletes for a very good performance and I hope they will learn from the experience to prepare for the Sabah Invitational Age Group in January next year,” he said.
He expressed his gratitude to the Youth and Sports Ministry and Sabah Sports Council for their support in implementing their programmes.
He also announced that they will be staging the first Sabah Novice Diving Competition 2022 on December 10-11 at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex preceded by a two-day Diving Judging and Competition Organising Clinic.
