KUCHING: Sabah and Sarawak contingents may face higher travel costs for the 22nd Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Selangor, following concerns linked to tensions in the Middle East, The Dayak Daily reported.

Sarawak Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the situation was being monitored.

He said it was encouraging that Malaysian oil tankers were reported to be passing safely through the Strait of Hormuz.

He added that, based on current conditions, fuel prices in Malaysia were expected to remain manageable compared to other countries.

Abdul Karim said preparations for the games were continuing as planned.

He said overseas training programmes, including for the Sarawak Wushu team, were ongoing in Tianjin, China.
