KOTA KINABALU: Sabah and Sarawak remain committed to the Federation of Malaysia but are united in demanding the full implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), said Upko president Ewon Benedict.
He said both states share similar rights under the agreement and can collectively push for their implementation, whether described as a “Borneo bloc” or cooperation between Sabah and Sarawak.
“Without Sabah and Sarawak, there would be no Federation of Malaysia. We are only demanding what was agreed in MA63,” he said after officiating a Chinese New Year event in Putatan.
Ewon, who is also the Penampang MP, said efforts to demand MA63 implementation would continue as long as agreed rights remain unresolved.
He was responding to remarks by former law minister Zaid Ibrahim, who said Sabah and Sarawak are strengthening their political influence at the federal level.
Ewon added that discussions on MA63 implementation are currently conducted through official platforms including the MA63 Implementation Action Council and its technical committee.
