Kota Kinabalu: SM Sung Siew and SM All Saints will represent Sabah at the national Shell NXplorers Malaysia Challenge later this month after emerging champion and first runner-up respectively in the state challenge held at Plaza Shell here on Monday.
SM Sung Siew’s Triangle team won with DriveShield, an affordable artificial intelligence-powered road safety system that detects risky driving behaviours, while SM All Saints’ Trecento Percento team took second place with Tag Tracker 300, an RFID-based student attendance system.
Meanwhile, SMK Lok Yuk’s Elsevier team received the Most Innovative Award for Automark, a fingerprint-based attendance system that records attendance in real time and shares the data with teachers and parents.
Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Limited general manager Alexon Jong said the programme aimed to equip students with critical thinking, engineering, digital technology and automation skills to address real-world challenges, particularly those involving food, water and energy.
Shell NXplorers Malaysia engaged more than 600 students from 29 schools nationwide, including 210 participants from Sabah, while reaching about 1,000 students through peer-to-peer learning.
