
BEAUFORT: The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Economy, will consider Sabah for the implementation of the second pilot project for the National Energy Roadmap (NETR).
Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Ruslan Muharam, said the project was aimed at solving electricity supply problems, especially in rural areas.
“We hope that NETR’s second pilot project, which involves solar energy system, will be implemented in Sabah because it will ease the electricity problems in rural areas.
“However, it needs to be adapted to the needs of the area so that it is in line with the goals of its implementation, while being able to develop the socio-economics of the population,” he said, here, Tuesday.

Read more The first NETR pilot project, through the collaboration of the Government and Sime Darby Property Company, was implemented in Selangor covering the Elmina Housing and Bandar Bukit Raja areas.
The initiative involved the installation of solar rooftops with solar capacity of up to 10 kilowatts per house, totalling 4.5 megawatts for 450 houses.
Ruslan who is also Lumadan Assemblyman, suggested Mingo Town which is near Beaufort for the second pilot project in the State.
He said apart from being a new township, Mingo surrounded by residential areas which meets the requirements for building the solar energy project.
“This proposal is in line with my desire and plan to make Beaufort a solar district town in the State,” he said.
