
SEPANGGAR: The current expansion of the Sapangar Bay Container Port, which is expected to be completed by 2025, is expected to have a multiplier effect on the State’s economic growth, according to Deputy Chief Minister lll Datuk Shahelmey Yahya.
He said this during a visit to Sabah Ports under Suria Capital Holdings Berhad and Group of Companies (SuriaGroup), here, Tuesday.
“I am made to understand that continued port operations and expansion are being done to ensure port activities in Sabah continue to prosper,” said Shahelmey, who is also State Works Minister.
According to him, progress on the additional jetty at the Sapangar Bay Oil Terminal was also a sign of economic growth of the area.

DP World is an Emirati multinational logistics company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Shahelmey is convinced that port activities will spur economic growth in Sabah with the strategic collaboration which is expected to start in 2024.
He said Sabah’s primary difficulty in terms of port activities is a lack of goods to be exported and thus believes that the partnership will definitely ensure economic growth and a large number of industrial goods that Sabah can export.
“This may unquestionably translate into industrial development for Sabah, in line with its Sabah Maju Jaya direction,” he said.
Assistant Minister of Works Datuk Robert Tawik was also present.
