Sabah Softwoods Berhad expands RE drive across ops

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Softwoods Berhad (SSB) is reinforcing its emphasis on sustainability practices through the use of renewable energy across company operations.

SSB Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Mohd Daud Tampokong said the initiative has not only successfully reduced reliance on diesel significantly, but has also yielded substantial operational cost savings.

“At the same time, it reflects SSB’s commitment to supporting the sustainable development agenda, reducing carbon emissions and strengthening the use of green energy for the benefit of the environment and future generations.

“For instance, the electricity supply for a major portion of estate operations in our Kalabakan operating area is now generated via our biogas plants, including at the Kapilit Palm Oil Mill and Dumpas Palm Oil Mill.

“Our hope is that, with solid support and cooperation from all parties, particularly Yayasan Sabah as the main shareholder, SSB will continue to move forward as a well-governed, high-integrity government-linked company (GLC) that remains relevant to current developments and needs,” he told the media after paying a courtesy call on Sabah Head of State Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu here Monday.

Dr Mohd Daud said the visit was aimed at briefing Musa on SSB’s latest developments, as well as the company’s achievements in financial performance, operations, governance and sustainable development.

“Management presented the company’s financial performance for the period from 2019 to June 2026, which demonstrates encouraging growth driven by the implementation of sound business strategies, operational efficiency and robust corporate governance practices,” he said.

In another development, he also clarified that SSB is among the largest dividend contributors to the Yayasan Sabah Group, declaring a dividend of RM145 million in 2025, bringing the total cumulative dividends contributed to Yayasan Sabah since 2019 to RM427 million.

Also present were SSB Board of Directors Chairman Datuk Mohd Arsad Bistari and SSB Board Directors Datuk Seri Dr Gulamhaidar Khan Bahadar, Datuk Freddy Lim Nyuk Sang, Datuk Joshua Ho Yee En and Datuk Abdul Halim Egoh.

For the record, SSB is the first GLC in Sabah to achieve Integrated Management System (IMS) ISO certification, encompassing four core management standards: Environmental Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Quality Management and Anti-Bribery Management Systems.
