KOTA KINABALU: Four Sabah climbers have brought the state’s spirit to new heights when they raised a Sabah-linked logo at an altitude of 5,364 metres in the Himalayas.

The milestone took place on Oct 15 when the Malaysian expedition team, which included the Sabahans, reached just below the summit of Kala Patthar, one of the world’s highest trekking points.

Stanley Catherinus, Dufy Robert, Shyril Gerald Peter and Darlien Appolonius proudly stood in traditional Papar Kadazan attire and ‘siga’ headgear, a colourful symbol of Sabah’s unity and cultural identity.

Their participation was partly sponsored by POIC, the state-owned company that operates the Lahad Datu Port and industrial park, reflecting a partnership of ambition and pride.

Though extreme conditions forced them to halt short of the peak, the team said the climb embodied the enduring resilience of Sabahans and POIC’s spirit of pushing beyond boundaries.
