PITAS: Pitas is set to emerge as one of the most important new commercial towns on Sabah’s west coast once two major township projects here are fully completed by 2028.
Sabah Housing and Urban Development Board (LPPB) Chairman Datuk Masiung Banah said the two key projects — located in Kampung Taka and the new Pitas town — are being developed through a partnership between the State Government and LPPB’s strategic partners.
He said this during the ground-breaking ceremony for the new township and commercial housing project in Kampung Taka, officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor, on Saturday.
Masiung said both township projects are being implemented under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development agenda.
The first project, located in the new Pitas town and launched in 2023, is nearing completion and includes 68 two-storey shop units and 14 light industrial lots.
Meanwhile, the latest project launched in Kampung Taka involves the construction of affordable housing and commercial properties.
A total of 37.6 acres has been gazetted for the project site, which will comprise 320 affordable housing units — including 274 double-storey terrace houses and 52 semi-detached double-storey houses.
Masiung said LPPB will also simultaneously construct 170 commercial units, including 68 shops and offices, 64 kiosks, one supermarket and eight semi-detached showrooms.
He added that construction work for the newly launched Kampung Taka project is expected to begin early next year.
“These two township projects will significantly boost the local economy and benefit the residents of Pitas,” he said.
During the Ground-breaking ceremony, Hajiji also said the project would have a major impact on the Pitas community by creating jobs, business opportunity and services, while also enabling more people to own homes.
