Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Language and Literature Association (Bahasa) said Sabahans have mastered English well and there is no urgent need to place the language on equal footing as Bahasa Malaysia.
“Sabah is a multi-ethnic and multi-racial State that has its own mother tongue and we have seen the role of Bahasa Malaysia as an effective unifying language and as a language of knowledge that makes our children able to compete at the global level,” said its President Datuk Jasni Matlani.
Jasni, the recipient of the 2015 SEA Write Malaysia Award, was commenting on Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor Hajiji’s statement that he wants to discuss the proposal on English discussed at Cabinet level.
