KOTA KINABALU, June 29 — Thousands of electricity consumers across Sabah will face scheduled power rationing after a disruption at an offshore gas platform reduced electricity generation capacity in the state’s power grid.

In a press holding statement today, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd today said the scheduled outages would affect several areas across the state as a temporary measure to maintain the stability of the electricity grid while restoration works are underway.

The utility company said the disruption was caused by an incident involving an offshore gas platform operated by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), which affected gas supplies to several Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

The reduced gas supply has in turn lowered electricity generation capacity within Sabah’s grid.

Sabah Electricity said the scheduled power rationing was necessary to ensure the overall stability of the state’s electricity supply while efforts continue to restore generation capacity.

The company acknowledged the inconvenience caused to consumers and said it was working to minimise the duration of the outages.

It advised the public to follow updates on affected areas through the official Sabah Electricity Careline Facebook page or contact the Sabah Electricity Careline at 15444 for further information.
