Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (Sabah Electricity) will implement scheduled electricity rationing in several areas across Sabah following a shortfall in power generation capacity within the State grid.
The situation was caused by a disruption at Petroliam Nasional Berhad's (Petronas) offshore gas platform, which affected gas supply to several Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and reduced electricity generation capacity.
Sabah Electricity said the scheduled rationing is a system management measure to maintain the stability of the State electricity grid while efforts are underway to restore generation capacity.
The utility said it is making every effort to minimise the duration of supply interruptions and will provide updates on affected areas and the latest developments through the Sabah Electricity Careline Facebook page, while enquiries can also be made via the Careline at 15444.
Sabah Electricity apologised for the inconvenience and thanked consumers for their patience and cooperation, while advising them to take the necessary precautions throughout the rationing period and to follow the company's official announcements.
