
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah has the highest cases of people falling for love scams in Malaysia, with the victims transferring millions of ringgit to charming strangers they fell in love online.
According to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), 21 such cases were recorded recently, involving losses up to RM3.3 million.
The common types of financial scams in Sabah include e-commerce scam, investment scam, phishing scam, phone scam and bogus loan scam, all totalling 1,042 cases with RM24.8 million in losses.
BNM engages the local media to publicise its tips not to fall for scams.
