Kota Kinabalu: Five outstanding students were selected to receive the Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri’s (TYT) Excellence Award Scholarship to further their studies at Northumbria University in the United Kingdom. They are scheduled to depart on Sept 19.
The scholarships were presented by Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman and his wife, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, at a ceremony held at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Thursday.
The youngest recipient, 17-year-old Nixon Liew Yan Chern, said the scholarship would not only ease his financial burden but also motivate him to pursue his ambition of becoming a chemical engineer.
“I hope I can use the knowledge I gain for the development of the country in the future,” he said.
Another recipient, Nur Sazrina Nester from Tuaran, expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity.
“I would like to thank the Sabah Government. From now on, I want to serve Sabah as a way of showing my appreciation and repaying the kindness for the opportunity given to me,” she said.
Besides Nixon and Nur Sazrina, the other three recipients are Aidryn Syinta Aidi, Garry Gelvint Hendry and Ivan Dominic Rainol.
Also present were State Public Service Director-General Datuk Norlijah Danin, Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ramlan Awang Ali and Sabah State Government Scholarship Division Director Emas Sanjongan Datu Okar.
