Kota Kinabalu: Fifteen Sabah women will have the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies under a strategic partnership between the Sabah Women’s Advisory Council (MPWS), Sabah Women’s Affairs Department (Jhewa) and North Borneo University (NBU).
The initiative will enable selected participants from the Leadership, Economy and Education clusters of the Global Leadership for Outstanding Women (Glow) programme to pursue Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees.
MPWS Deputy Chairperson Datuk Fauziah Abu Bakar Titingan, representing MPWS chairperson Datuk Dr Rosmawati Lasuki, said the initiative was aimed at strengthening the academic and professional capabilities of high-potential women leaders.
“This high-impact collaboration focuses on enhancing academic and professional empowerment for participants of the Global Leadership for Outstanding Women (Glow) programme,” she said during a working visit to NBU.
Fauziah said the higher education initiative was exclusively tailored for selected Glow participants as part of a phased empowerment plan launched last year.
She said all candidates underwent rigorous screening and comprehensive leadership mentoring before being selected.
“The initiative aims to elevate academic qualifications and professional competencies, nurturing the next generation of women leaders in Sabah,” she said.
The delegation included MPWS Education Committee chairman Prof Dr Ts Imbarine Bujang and Jhewa director Haslina Ismail.
They were received by NBU top management led by Vice-President I and Chief Executive Officer Assoc Prof Doretty R Jiroh.
Fauziah said discussions resulted in NBU confirming its readiness to offer the tailored MBA programme through blended learning, incorporating Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) pathways and Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) accreditation.
She expressed confidence that the collaboration would contribute to the development of women’s human capital and generate long-term socioeconomic benefits for Sabah.
“This strategic cooperation between MPWS, Jhewa and higher education institutions like NBU aims to produce highly educated, competitive and visionary female leaders.
“Beyond sustaining individual career advancement, it will drive significant social and economic progress across Sabah’s women’s community,” she said.
