Kota Kinabalu: Sabah wants to produce a generation capable of understanding technology, developing solutions and creating innovations suited to the State’s needs, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said mastery of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) was essential to drive economic growth and improve the people’s well-being amid rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI), automation, digital technology, biotechnology, space technology and renewable energy.
Hajiji said STI was also crucial to implementing the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 Development Plan and producing a skilled workforce in AI, digital technology and other high-impact sectors.
His speech, delivered by State Assistant Women, Health and People’s Well-being Minister Datuk Rina Jainal, was made at the closing of the Integrated STI Cultivation Programme at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) here on Tuesday.
Hajiji called for stronger cooperation among the State and Federal governments, MOSTI, KPSTI and UMS to expand STI programmes to schools and communities, including rural and interior areas, and promote innovation in sectors including agriculture, healthcare, green energy, marine technology and the digital economy.
