The Sabah Women and Children’s Hospital (HWKKS) will hold its 2026 World Blood Donor Day Celebration over two days beginning July 25.
HWKKS Blood Transfusion Medicine Specialist Dr Jamaludin Mail said the event reflects the government’s and health authorities’ continued commitment to strengthening the nation’s blood services through voluntary blood donation.
“The HWKKS-level World Blood Donor Day Celebration 2026 will be held on July 25 and 26 at 1Borneo Hypermall, Kota Kinabalu, and is expected to be officiated by the hospital Director Dr Yogendar Panchalingam.
“World Blood Donor Day is observed annually on June 14 to recognise voluntary blood donors and raise public awareness of the importance of regular blood donation to ensure a safe, adequate and readily available blood supply for patients in need,” he said in a statement.
Dr Jamaludin said this year’s campaign emphasises the humanitarian value of blood donation, noting that every unit of donated blood has the potential to save lives while reflecting compassion, generosity and a spirit of helping others.
In addition to the blood donation campaign, he said the celebration will include appreciation ceremonies for blood donors and organisers, as well as awards recognising individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to HWKKS’s blood donation programme throughout the year.
“HWKKS welcomes members of the public to attend with their families and friends to support this meaningful initiative. Every blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives and offer new hope to patients in need,” he said.
The public is invited to participate in the celebration and support efforts to ensure Sabah maintains an adequate blood supply to meet the needs of patients across the State.
