
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Wushu Association made a breakthrough at the National Talents Carnival (Selangor series one) held in Shah Alam over the weekend.
A total 151 athletes aged 7-14 took part in the five-day competition hosted by National Sport Council (NSC) and organised by Selangor Sport Council.
They won two gold, one silver and four bronze medals to finish ninth overall in the medal table standing.
The gold medals, first wins for Sabah in the competition, were delivered by Javven Tsen Yu You from SJK (C) St. James, Kota Kinabalu in the group D (7-8) male changquan event and Audrey Ann Chong Rou En from SJK (C) Pui Gin, Sandakan in group D (7-8) female qiangshu.

Read more The only silver was won by Layden Lim Zhi Jye (Tshung Tsin Secondary School) in Group B (12-14) male gunshu while the bronze medallists were Cassandra Wong Ya Li (Tshung Tsin Secondary School) in Group B (U12-14) female taijiquan and taijijian, Claire Wilson (SJK (C) Kolombong Che Hwa, Kota Kinabalu) in Group C (9-11) female jianshu and Ellexa Evy Yosia (SJK (C) Tai Tong, Sandakan) in Group D (7-8) female nanquan.
The State team led by Sabah Wushu Association (2017) secretary Lee Hon Yee with Sabah Sports Council coaches Lee Tsun Kee (Kota Kinabalu) and Lim Shung Zer (Sandakan) was represented by six girls and seven boys with eight from Kota Kinabalu and five from Sandakan.
Hon Yee said the gold medals won for the first time on the national stage was a step forward for the association and he thanked Sabah Sports Council for their support.
Meanwhile, he said Tsun Kee and Shung Zer are tasked to select athletes from Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan to represent the State team in the upcoming 13th KPM-WFM Wushu Championship.
