SANDAKAN: Parti Warisan is ramping up its outreach to the Chinese community in Sabah as part of its strategy to contest all 73 state seats in the coming state election.

Party President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the strong turnout of Chinese community leaders, association representatives and entrepreneurs at a gathering in Sandakan reflected growing interest in engaging with Warisan.

“It is a good sign. One thing that really pleased me is that they attended the function and pledged their support,” he said after the event.

“We have to work hard because we have to earn it. That’s why I am now in Sandakan, and next week I’ll be in Tenom, Bingkor, Lahad Datu, Banggi and Bengkoka to reach as many Sabahans as possible and ensure they understand how important it is to make changes in the State,” he said.

Shafie also stressed that Sabah’s leadership must be decided by Sabahans themselves and not outsiders.

“What’s important in Sabah during the election is that we decide who forms the government and who becomes the Chief Minister of Sabah. Not the Chief Minister of Penang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur or Putrajaya. No — we are choosing the Chief Minister of Sabah, chosen by the people of Sabah,” he said.

He added that Warisan remained committed to strengthening ties with all communities to build a better state administration.

“It’s not that we can’t work together, but they want to see real efforts to fight corruption and policies that ease their burdens, especially when it comes to taxes,” he said.

Shafie expressed confidence that with wider multiracial support, Warisan could deliver a more transparent and effective government for Sabah.
