
Kota Kinabalu: More than a week after the Central Database Hub (Padu) was launched in Putrajaya, counters to register for the system in Sabah are still seeing a beeline of residents who want to ensure they are not passed over for government aid.
The Sabah Chapter of the Statistics Department has set up counters in various locations, including Kota Kinabalu, Putatan, Sandakan, Tawau, Keningau, Lahad Datu and Kota Marudu.
Although she owns and knows how to use a smartphone, Nadia Azia Aziz, still visited the counter at the Kota Kinabalu UTC to learn more about and register for Padu.
“At first I didn’t know what Padu was, but I was given an explanation by the officer on duty. I registered for Padu on my phone and I found the process easy,” said the 36-year-old merchant.

Sales-person Noratika Humaira Sail, 25, and Silva Wong, 40, also found the registration process a breeze.
Civil servant Josephine Anthoneus, 46, from Penampang however, thinks the Government must do more to spread information about Padu.
“Those who are unused to using online services will find it hard to register without a proper guide”, she added.
Farah Lee, 44, she did not experience any problems registering herself but found the identity verification process cumbersome.
“Registration is simple, but the identity verification needs to be improved so that it is easier and we don’t have to go to a physical counter,” she said.
