In the murder case of a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader in village Mannan two days ago, police have booked eight persons, including a woman and arrested three accused. This information was shared by SP Dr Manpreet Shinhmar in a press note issued on Saturday.
SP said that the preliminary investigation has revealed that the main reason behind the incident was an old enmity due to a land dispute. However, police are conducting a detailed investigation into the case.
According to police, Sarbjit Kaur, wife of the deceased Harpinder Singh, had told the police that her husband had returned from Hoshiarpur on June 11 afternoon. Due to a land dispute, Bhupinder Singh alias Monu, Gurinder Singh alias Bhinda of village Mannan and Rajinder Singh alias Kaka of Bassi Hasti Khan, along with three unidentified persons, allegedly surrounded him and attacked him with sharp weapons.
The injured Harpinder Singh was admitted to a private hospital, where he later died during treatment. Following the complaint, police registered a case and arrested Bhupinder Singh alias Monu, Gurinder Singh alias Bhinda and Rajinder Singh alias Kaka.
During further investigation, three more accused, Arsh Jagga of Naru Nangal, Shalu of Vaddi Bassi and Jita of Singhpur, were also named. SP Dr Manpreet Shinhmar said that the mother Avtar Kaur and brother Maninder Singh of main accused Monu have also been named in the case. Police said further arrests will be made soon and investigation is ongoing.
