
A local court in Fatehabad has convicted six persons in a 2016 attempt-to-murder case and sentenced each of them to seven years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh on Friday.
The verdict was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Amit Garg in a case registered at the Bhuna police station on May 31, 2016, under various sections of the IPC, including attempt to murder, rioting and criminal intimidation, besides provisions of the Arms Act.
SP Nikita Khattar said those convicted had been identified as Sachin Kumar, alias Tony, Vikas, Satish Kumar, alias Asharam, Surender, alias Salender Singh, Sumit and Sanjay.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed by Vishwamitra, a resident of Khajuri Jati village. He alleged that on May 31, 2016, he was repairing a pipeline in his field along with his son Vinod, alias Manoj, brother Subhash and nephew Sudhir when the accused arrived and entered into a dispute over a passage.
The accused allegedly attacked them with sticks and illegal weapons and also opened fire. Vinod and Sudhir sustained serious injuries in the assault.
A team led by then Assistant Sub-Inspector Gulab arrested the accused and collected evidence. After completion of the probe, the chargesheet was filed in the court on August 2, 2016.
During the trial, the prosecution examined 15 witnesses. Relying on witness testimonies, documentary evidence and arguments presented by the prosecution, the court held all six accused guilty and awarded the sentence.
