Kota Kinabalu: The Safa (Sabah Football Association) women’s football team moved to the top of the National Women’s League standings on Wednesday after Kuala Lumpur FC failed to show up for their match at Likas Stadium.
According to Safa’s official social media page, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) confirmed the match as a walkover due to Kuala Lumpur FC’s absence. As a result, Safa were awarded a 3-0 walkover win and secured all three points.
With this result, Safa now leads the six-team standings with 23 points from seven wins and two draws. They hold a narrow one-point lead over second-placed Selangor FC (22 points), while Kelana United remain in third with 19 points.
They have only one league match remaining—against the Red Eagles at Likas Stadium on Oct 17. After that, they will advance to the knockout semifinals featuring the top four teams on Oct 25, followed by the final on Nov 1.
