Safma seeks tie-up with financial institutions to expand fisheries sector

SEMPORNA: Sabah Fish Marketing Sdn Bhd (Safma) intends to expand its footprint in the fisheries industry by forging strategic partnerships with financial institutions to explore viable business and investment opportunities.

General Manager Burhan Japar said collaboration with entities such as Agrobank is crucial to opening wider markets for commodities, including the seaweed sector, and identifying high-potential, large-scale commercial ventures.

Speaking during a courtesy call on Semporna Agrobank branch manager Donny Abbie on Wednesday, Burhan noted that the meeting allowed both parties to exchange views on fisheries potential, joint financing, and project development in the district.

He said unlocking the full commercial potential of Semporna’s fisheries and seaweed sectors through agency and financial partnerships would create sustainable economic opportunities for local fishermen and entrepreneurs.

Safma Deputy General Manager Azis Ali Amat was also present during the working visit, which included an inspection of the Safma port project site here.
