It might still feel like Christmas is a way off, but the best supermarket food-to-order is already here to help you plan ahead. Sainsbury’s was the first supermarket to go live with its range, with shoppers able to pre-order their festive food now in time for the big day.
Known for bringing serious crowd-pleasers and incredible value to the table, Sainsbury’s taste the difference range is pulling out all the stops this year, from party food and showstopping centrepieces to decadent desserts. Plus this year, the supermarket has launched items from its taste the difference discovery range, which packs in even more flavour.
Speaking of, the festive menu this year is full of mouthwatering additions, which I’ve had the chance to see first-hand. Highlights this season include a turkey crown with a pork, chestnut, mulled cider and apple stuffing, decadent lobster tails with garlic butter, and the driving home this Christmas mousse.
To reserve your order you need to pay a £20 deposit and order by 16 December, for collection at your local Sainsbury’s between 22 and 24 December.

Sainsbury’s Christmas starters
The supermarket is making starters a sharing affair with three new dishes: a brie en croute (£16, Sainsburys.co.uk), a garlic and mature Cheddar Camembert wreath (£11, Sainsburys.co.uk) and a butternut squash and cranberry wreath (£7, Sainsburys.co.uk) on the menu. Elsewhere, it has supersized the prawn cocktail (and added lobster) to make it serve four (£17, Sainsburys.co.uk), while the Scottish smoked salmon and king prawn terrine will be an eye-catching centrepiece (£17, Sainsburys.co.uk).

Sainsbury’s has pulled the stops out for mains this year with several stuffed and glazed turkeys joining its range. From the turkey crown with an apricot, cranberry and candied ginger stuffing and a honey and treacle glaze (from £67.50, Sainsburys.co.uk), to the turkey breast parcel with a dark cherry and apricot stuffing with a maple and chai honey glaze (£40, Sainsburys.co.uk), any centrepiece will have mouths watering.
Turkey aside, tuck into ribs of meat like the bone salt aged crackling pork rib roast with basting herbs brush and Cornish butter (from £28.01, Sainsburys.co.uk), or salt dry aged Welsh hill rack of lamb with an orange and maple glaze (from £15.20, Sainsburys.co.uk).
The fish option is a crisp Hebridean salmon Wellington served with an indulgent brut champagne sauce made (£50, Sainsburys.co.uk) and parsley crusted halibut fillet (£42.50, Sainsburys.co.uk), while there’s a vegan no turkey crown with bacon lattice (£7, Sainsburys.co.uk).

You’ll want to save room for the indulgent dessert offering. For something fresh, the limoncello tiramisu (£12, Sainsburys.co.uk) has a savoiardi sponge with a zesty Sicilian lemon sauce, topped with a mascarpone mousse and lemon curd. The Black Forest cheesecake with chocolate biscuit base and sour cherry sauce (£15, Sainsburys.co.uk) will be the choice for chocolate lovers.
End the meal with the show-stopper driving home this Christmas dessert – a rich chocolate mousse set on a crisp white chocolate, wafer and chocolate biscuit ball base, with a salted caramel sauce and brownie centre (£18, Sainsburys.co.uk).
