KENINGAU: Sabah Umno veteran Datuk Dr Sairin Karno is against lumping Sabah’s indigenous groups under the category of “Dayak” as suggested by Star Sabah President Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.
“I think it is irrational and an illusion that the term Dayak will be accepted by the KadazanDusun, Murut and Rungus (KDMR).
“We have built the KDMR into such a strong group. There is no need for all that anymore.
“All acknowledge that the colonial historical writings mention Dayaks as from the island of Borneo in the early 1600s. But it applied at a time when nations had not come about. The natives of Sabah prefer to be known as KDMR,” he said at his Hari Raya open house.
