SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Golf and Country Club (SG&CC) hosted two of its premier annual golfing events, the 16th Sandakan Senior Amateur Open Golf Championship 2026 and the 45th Sandakan Amateur Open Golf Championship 2026 at SG&CC, here, recently.
Amateur golfers from across Sabah and beyond also gather to compete over several days of the high-quality competition.
The 16th Sandakan Senior Amateur Open Golf Championship 2026 featured a 36-hole stroke play format for senior golfers.
In the senior gross category, Mitchell Steel emerged as champion with a two-round total of 152.
While the senior nett title won by Mohamad Hiya, who returned a winning score of 128.
As for the 45th Sandakan Amateur Open Golf Championship 2026, competitors battled over 54 holes.
In the prestigious men’s gross category, Nazran Shahrizan captured the championship after posting an impressive 229 total over three rounds.
Meanwhile, Jamil Mohd Sapi claimed the men’s nett championship with a winning score of 130, demonstrating consistent play throughout the tournament.
While Abdul Wahab Abdul Gani received eagle prize.
The annual championships among others highlighted the growing standard of amateur golf in Sabah while providing an excellent platform for golfers to compete, foster friendships and promote the sport in Sandakan.
