SANDAKAN: A 1.5 tonne lorry driver sustained injuries after his truck was hit by a 10-tonne lorry at Batu 30, here, Tuesday evening.

The Fire and Rescue Department said it received a distress call at 4.31pm via the MERS 999 line.

Seven firefighters led by Saida Yuliya rushed to the location 47km away.

The incident caused a vehicle pile involving a three-ton lorry, a 29-passenger minibus, a Perodua Myvi, a Proton Saga FLX, a Toyota Revo, a Toyota Hilux and a Ford Ranger.

The injured victim was removed by members of the public before the arrival of rescue workers and sent to the nearest hospital on an ambulance for further treatment. The other victims escaped unaharmed. Firemen at the scene conducted inspections to ensure that there were no other hazards present at the location. The operation then ended at 5.40 pm.

Following the incident, it is understood that other road users were caught in a long standstill along the only route in and out of the district.
