MANILA, Philippines — Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander Marcos recused himself from proceedings of the House Committee on Rules in connection with the impeachment complaints filed against his father, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
"While I am fully aware that the Rules of the House do not require my inhibition, and while I remain confident in the independence and professionalism of my colleagues, I recognize that leadership sometimes calls for restraint rather than participation. In moments that test institutions, perception matters as much as procedure,” said Rep. Marcos, who leads the rules committee being the House majority leader.
Last week, an impeachment complaint was filed at the House by lawyer Andre de Jesus. It was endorsed by House Deputy Minority Leader and Pusong Pinoy Rep. Jernie Jett Nisay.
On Monday morning, another impeachment complaint was filed against Marcos by private persons. It was endorsed by the three-member Makabayan bloc of lawmakers.
