Sanitation workers of the local Municipal Council staged a dharna on the fifth day of their indefinite strike today and expressed their anger over the “government inaction” in accepting their demands.
Apart from sanitation workers of the civic body, sewermen, drivers etc too participated in the dharna. Leaders, in their address, said the organisation had been demanding the regularisation of temporary employees, end to the contract system, restoration of the old pension scheme, equal pay for equal work, provision of jobs to deserving families on compassionate grounds etc. The leaders said that the employees would continue their strike till their demands were met. Meanwhile, due to the strike, filth has dotted many parts of the city, with the administration remaining a mute spectator in this matter.
