Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor urges Kedah assemblymen to act as a check-and-balance, ensuring transparent governance and a united fight against corruption.
ALOR SETAR: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has called on Kedah state assemblymen to play a firmer role as guardians of integrity and a vital check-and-balance mechanism.
He stated that modern governance requires an integrated approach involving all parties, including elected representatives and enforcement agencies, rather than operating in silos.
“The role of an assemblyman is not merely to convey the people’s aspirations, but to ensure every policy is understood, implemented effectively, and monitored transparently at the grassroots level,” he said at the MACC engagement programme with Kedah Assemblymen 2026.
He highlighted the timely implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2024–2028 as a systematic step to combat corruption across key areas like education and public accountability.
Sanusi stressed that success demands unwavering commitment from all parties to turn words into concrete action, as the fight cannot be won with policy documents alone.
He reminded attendees that every government allocation must be managed with integrity and every project implemented transparently without conflict of interest.
“We cannot compromise on integrity, as once public trust is eroded, the impact affects the entire state administration,” he emphasised.
He also described the MACC as a vital partner in strengthening the anti-corruption framework through education and sustainable system improvements.
Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman said corruption stems from systems lacking effective control and transparent oversight, not weak laws.
Azmi explained that leakage in public fund management reflects weaknesses in the entire governance chain from planning to implementation.
He warned that when such weaknesses occur repeatedly, they form a pattern that becomes a norm and ultimately weakens the entire system.
