Sara Duterte hints at brother Baste’s possible national run

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday hinted that her brother, Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, could be the one to make a national political run, recalling that their mother had once told her to return to Davao and let Baste take on a national role.

Duterte, however, said she and the Davao City mayor had not discussed him running for president.

“But I think I have mentioned this before. My mother really told me to come home to Davao and said that Baste should be the one to run nationally,” Duterte said during a press conference in Davao City.

She recalled her mother telling her to “come home to Davao,” then adding that Baste should “handle the national” political role.

Duterte did not identify which national position her mother had in mind for , nor did she say that her brother had agreed to run.

The remark was made during the same briefing where Duterte rejected allegations by dismissed police officer Rodulfo “Rody” Gracioso Jr. and said she would submit her affidavit to the National Bureau of Investigation on Thursday.
