KUCHING (May 11): Law enforcement must continue to be enhanced to ensure public safety and security in this digital era, said Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He also called upon Internet users across Sarawak to use the global network responsibly.

“In this digital era without borders, threats to public safety have become increasingly complex, including cyber threats and the spread of fake news.

“With that, all parties need to be more responsible in the use of social media and digital platforms so that community harmony continues to be maintained.

“At the same time, law enforcement needs to continue to be enhanced to ensure that public safety and security are always at a good level,” he said when opening the first meeting of the fifth term of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Monday.

Wan Junaidi pointed out that the political stability and racial harmony enjoyed by Sarawak today are among the main strengths of the state.

As such, he said Sarawakians must continue to be responsible for maintaining this peaceful and safe atmosphere that can convince investors.

“This harmonious situation is important because investors and global economic players are more likely to invest in countries or regions that have political stability, good governance and communities that live in peace, tranquility and harmony,” he added.

Towards this end, he called on all Sarawakians of diverse races, religions, cultures and different views and stances to continue to uphold and practise the spirit of unity, mutual respect and harmony that has long been the strength of their state.

He believed that with visionary and far-sighted leadership, Sarawak can continue to develop as a modern, prosperous and high-income region.
