KUALA LUMPUR – National hockey head coach Sarjit Singh has strongly denied claims that he has “lost the dressing room,” insisting that his players remain fully behind him as they prepare for upcoming international competitions.
Speaking to Scoop, Sarjit dismissed the allegations as “rubbish,” attributing them to individuals with personal agendas who are not part of the national setup.
“Ask the players themselves. From day one, they have been with me and they have supported me all the way. One hundred percent, the team is behind me. Whatever allegations saying I lost the dressing room are rubbish,” he said.
The former Olympian stressed that only those actively involved in the national programme understand how the team operates.
“These people are not sincere. They are trying to break the team. Before speaking negatively, they should look at themselves and ask what they have done for the country,” he added.
Sarjit highlighted the unity and dedication within the squad, noting that players are motivated to perform for both him and the nation.
“The players are ready to fight for me and for Malaysia. This is our national team. It is not just my team or your team. Everybody must support the boys,” he said.
He also singled out key players such as Naaveenesh Panicker, Fitri Saari, and Faizal Saari, praising their leadership and loyalty.
“They adore the team, they love to play for Malaysia, and they give everything on the field. Those spreading rumours have not contributed anything comparable,” he said.
The national squad recently secured qualification for the World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium following a tense qualifying campaign in Ismailia, Egypt last week.
Despite reports suggesting some players were unhappy with his tactics, Sarjit insisted the team remains focused on upcoming events, including the Nations Cup and Asian Games later this year.
“Malaysian hockey is bigger than any individual. The boys are committed, they are working hard, and they are ready to fight for the country. That is what matters,” he said.
Sarjit concluded by urging supporters and critics to concentrate on the team’s preparation rather than unverified rumours.
“If you want to help the team, come to the ground, watch the players, support them, and give constructive feedback. Don’t listen to people who have no part in the system,” he said. - March 14, 2026
