KUALA LUMPUR – The organisers of the Perikatan Nasional-led Save Malaysia rally have refuted allegations that they locked the main entrance of the Kg Baru mosque here.

Based on observations by Scoop since 11.30am, the main gate was not closed even when the crowd started the march.

A spokesman for the organisers claimed it was slander meant to create negative perceptions of the event.

“I’ve been here since 10am until we started marching. None of the mosque’s gates were closed. (PAS) Unit Amal was only helping the authorities to control traffic while ensuring that there was no commotion that would threaten public safety,” he told Scoop when met near the Sogo shopping complex here.

A handful of media reports alleged that the mosque’s main gate was locked by PAS’ Unit Amal around 11.50am.

Rally-goers started marching from the Kg Baru mosque to Sogo and Dataran Merdeka, as well as to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters to lodge a report urging the authorities to investigate the unity government and Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s recent conditional discharge from the deputy prime minister’s graft charges. – September 16, 2023
