IN line with its 125th anniversary, the Supreme Court late on Thursday announced the release of a commemorative banknote, coin, and stamp, as part of its “journey and legacy of upholding justice and the rule of law have been brought closer to the Filipino people.”
A ceremony was held on Wednesday at the high court’s Session Hall for the launch of the P3,000 commemorative banknote, a P125 coin, and a commemorative stamp.
The P3,000 banknote, issued by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), is the first banknote with a vertical design. It bears the portrait of Cayetano Arellano, the country’s first chief justice, along with Lady Justice and the high court’s New Building, and lists the names of the chief justices. The obverse shows Session Hall and the former Main Library of the University of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the P125 commemorative coin features Lady Justice on the obverse, along with the logos of the high court and the central bank, and the 15 stars that symbolize the Court’s justices. The reverse displays the official logo of the tribunal’s 125th anniversary.
BSP artist Kenneth Arroyo designed the banknote, while Abigail Cutaran from the central bank and Rancho Arcilla from the high court’s Office of the Spokesperson designed the commemorative coin.
“Although legal tender or legally valid for payment, both commemorative issues will soon be available for purchase at the BSP and the newly opened SC Gift Shop,” the high court said in a statement.
The high court released four different commemorative stamps, also in line with its anniversary.
